The Grant Process

Contact the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) for help with any stage of the grant process.

Idea conception
You have an idea for a project. Start brainstorming about your project to develop it further. See Creating the Proposal for ideas regarding brainstorming.

Sponsor identification
Find sponsors who share your values. Contact the OSP for a list of potential sponsors.

Pre-proposal contact
Discuss with the OSP your concept and proposal intentions. Complete the intent to apply form. Contact the sponsor to learn more about their funding priorities, funding levels and application procedures. Begin to analyze the sponsor.

Writing the proposal
Proposals can take many forms, depending on the guidelines of the sponsor. See Creating the Proposal for ideas regarding proposal writing.

Submitting the proposal
Upon completion of all appropriate forms and signatures, the OSP will submit the proposal. The applicant should go through your checklist to make sure you have included everything the sponsor requests, such as non-profit statistics, resumes, audited financial statement, and a list of the Board of Directors/Board of Trustees.

Funding decision
Regardless of the funding decision, be sure to follow up with a thank you note.
